Try to buy figs that have been brought directly from the garden and are fresh and smell like figs when you open the carton, and should not be hard and dry when eaten. They should be soft and fleshy. It is better to know that Fars province is the largest producer of organic figs in Iran due to not using agricultural chemicals and pesticides.

Among the provinces of the country, Fars province has the highest production rate of dried figs in the country, and among the cities of this province, Estehban has the highest production of dried figs in the province.

Figs are produced in Fars province and Estehban city in two ways: dry and wet. It should be noted that a high percentage of fig cultivation in this province is rainfed.

Estehban Qutb city is the producer of dried figs in Iran. The figs of this city are very high quality and have excellent exports all over the world.

Types of Iranian Figs

Iranian figs are of high and good quality, fleshy, yellow and white in color, and also very tasty in terms of taste, and are more suitable for sale as nuts.

Figs are weak and of lower quality for the production of fig products and are mostly used in perfumery. This fig is edible and meaty, but it is mostly tan and varnished in color.

There are different types of figs, which can generally be divided into two categories: dry figs and fresh figs. In the following, we refer to the types of exported Iranian figs:

Types of Iranian Dried Figs:

Estehban dried figs: This type of fig is one of the best and most famous dried figs in Iran, which is produced in Estehban city of Fars province. Estehban figs have thin skin, light brown flesh and sweet and hearty taste.

Niriz dried figs: This type of fig is one of the best dried figs in Iran, which is produced in Niriz city of Fars province. Niriz figs have a thicker skin than Estehban figs, dark brown flesh and a sweet and mellow taste.

Kadusan dried figs: This type of fig is produced in Kadusan city of Mazandaran province. Kadusan figs have thick skin, dark brown flesh and sweet and slightly sour taste.

Fresh figs

Fresh green figs: This type of figs is marketed in late spring and early summer. Fresh green figs have green skin, white flesh, and sweet and malty taste.

Fresh black figs: This type of figs is marketed in late summer and early fall. Fresh black figs have black skin, purple flesh and a sweet and slightly sour taste.

Fresh brown figs: This type of figs is marketed in the middle of the summer season. Fresh brown figs have brown skin, light brown flesh, and sweet and savory taste.

All kinds of Figs Exported from Iran

Grade 101 (AAA) dried figs: It is the most expensive type of dried figs, which includes seeds with a bright color (white and yellow) and a relatively large size (larger than 24 mm), and the dried fig seeds in this type are completely open and without The seeds are small and dark in color.
Grade 101 (AA) dried figs: It contains light colored seeds (white and yellow) and average coarse size of 22 mm. In this type, dried fig seeds have maximum 90% open mouth and maximum 4% dark colored seeds.
Grade 101 (A) dried figs: contains light colored seeds (white and yellow) and size between 14 and 22 mm. In this type, dried fig seeds have at least 25% open mouth and maximum 15% dark colored seeds.
Grade (AA) dried figs: It contains bright colored seeds (white and yellow) and an average size of 20 mm. In this type, dried fig seeds have at least 45% open mouth and maximum 4% dark colored seeds.
Grade (A) dried figs: Contains yellow and brown seeds and an average size of 20 mm. In this type, most of the dried fig seeds have closed mouths and at least 25% open mouths.
Dry fig grade (B): includes brown and gray seeds with an average size of 14 mm. In this type, most of the dried fig seeds have closed mouths and at least 3% open mouths.
Grade (A) pressed figs: includes moist fig seeds that are pressed by the machine in the form of tablets and have a light color, which are available in 250, 400, and 500 gram packages.
Grade (B) pressed figs: includes wet fig seeds that are pressed into tablets by the machine and have a darker color than grade A, which is available in 250, 400, and 500 gram packages.

It is worth noting that most of Iran’s figs are exported to other countries, mostly of A and AA quality.

What Characteristics should Iranian Dried Figs have?

This product should have large, fleshy and sweet seeds. This dried fruit should have a shiny appearance and bright color, be free of damage and pests and be completely healthy.
This type of dried fruit must be obtained from fresh figs of high quality and organically, and its drying methods must be completely natural, that is, acid or additives should not be used in its preparation, so that it has a high nutritional value.
Dried figs must be completely sorted and one hand and have a completely natural and pleasant taste and smell. The sweeter and juicier the fig, the bigger the split, so first-class dried figs are split and sweet.
